Massimo Malvestio’s professional journey into legal practice and international finance

Born in Treviso (Italy) in 1961, Massimo Malvestio graduated in Law from the University of Padova and, soon after, he enrolled in the Register of Lawyers and qualified to represent clients before the Italian Supreme Court. Subsequently, he passed the examination to become “Procuratore alle grida” at the Milan Stock Exchange’s trading floor. After working many years in the legal field, he entered the world of finance and established Hermes Linder Fund SICAV and Praude Asset Management Ltd.

Massimo Malvestio’s professional biography

Massimo Malvestio serves today as Portfolio Manager and Chairman of the Investment Committee at Praude Asset Management Ltd., the asset management company which he launched in 2009. Prior to this, he founded Hermes Linder Fund SICAV through which he has managed to achieve remarkable results over the years. After fully qualifying as a lawyer, he started his professional career by cofounding “Studio Legale Barel Malvestio & Ass.”: the law firm was launched in Northeast Italy in 1990 and was later renamed “BM&A”. He took on the role of Managing Partner of the firm and successfully led the commercial law practice, while focusing on areas including banking law, financial markets law, governmental enterprises and financial crime law. When he took a step back from the legal profession, “BM&A” had 4 offices in Italy and employed more than 40 lawyers. Massimo Malvestio also worked as legal consultant to several Italian and European banks, listed companies and the largest enterprises in Northeast Italy. Furthermore, he sat on the boards, audit panels and investment committees of banks, asset managers and brokerage houses, both in Italy and abroad.

Massimo Malvestio enters the financial world

Massimo Malvestio‘s passion for financial matters grew long before establishing Hermes Linder Fund SICAV. As he recalled on several occasions, in 1985 he started to work with Mario Zarattini, a legendary asset manager and a friend of him with whom he collaborated until 2003. His legal expertise combined with financial analysis eventually led to launching Hermes Linder Fund SICAV which, over the years, has recorded excellent results including a track record of performance of over 600% (compared to its launch value) and an accrued performance for investors (net of fees) of 11.85% – 18 years after its foundation. This performance is also a confirmation of Massimo Malvestio‘s ability to create value for investors over time, as many of the fund’s most successful operations are a result of his strong expertise in legal matters and value investing. Today, he is Portfolio Manager and Chairman of the Investment Committee at Praude Asset Management Ltd., the asset management company he established in 2009 and which currently manages Hermes Linder Fund SICAV. The fund’s management team received several international awards, among which are a “five-star rating” by Morningstar and the Thomson Reuter Lipper Fund Award for “Best Fund” over 3 years, “Equity Europe 2017” category. In the past, Massimo Malvestio was also a columnist for “Corriere del Veneto” – the Veneto edition of “Corriere della Sera” and wrote several articles on banking and finance matters for research institutes, newspapers and news portals in Italy. He is the author of “Credito Cooperative – Storia di Uomini Bisogni e Successi in Veneto” (Marsilio, 2006) and “Mala Gestio: Perché i Veneti Stanno Tornando Poveri” (Marsilio, 2012).
